This is the molding that goes on the body around the rear window that the convertible top boot clips connect to.  Once installed, the moldings serve to hold the top boot when the convertible top is down.  The top boot clips snap directly onto the well molding & help to retain the top boot.  Well Molding Clips are required for mounting the molding to the car.
